Mobile Imaging Trailer & Truck — X-Ray, CT, Mammography, MRI and More

A mobile imaging unit is a van, truck or trailer built around a diagnostic imaging system, such as X-ray, CT, mammography, MRI, ultrasound or DEXA. The vehicle provides radiation or magnetic shielding, conditioned power, climate control and patient access. Odulair engineers the vehicle and integrates it to the imaging manufacturer’s site-planning requirements.

Imaging Modalities and the Right Platform

Modality Typical platform Key build requirement
Digital X-ray Van or 24–30ft truck Radiation shielding designed by a qualified expert
Mammography (2D/3D) 30ft truck Shielding, private changing area, MQSA certification of the unit
CT Trailer Heavier shielding, high power, gantry weight and cooling
MRI 48–53ft semi-trailer RF and magnetic shielding, chiller, cryogen venting
Ultrasound / echo Van or truck Exam room, power conditioning, data
DEXA Van or truck Low-dose shielding, stable mounting

What Every Mobile Imaging Build Needs

  • Shielding — lead or equivalent shielding for X-ray and CT, sized from a qualified expert’s shielding plan; RF and magnetic shielding for MRI
  • Power — conditioned power and a generator or shore supply sized to the system’s peak draw
  • Climate control — tight temperature and humidity limits for detectors and electronics, in transit and in use
  • Stable mounting — reinforced floors, vibration-isolated mounts and leveling so the system arrives calibrated
  • Patient access — steps with handrails or an ADA lift, changing area and privacy
  • Connectivity — PACS and teleradiology links so remote radiologists can read studies

Regulation and Registration

Radiation-producing equipment must be registered with the state radiation control program where it operates. Mammography units must also be certified under the federal Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA). Odulair designs the vehicle to support those inspections. The operating organization holds the registrations and certificates.

Built by a Mobile Medical Manufacturer

Odulair builds mammography trucks and X-ray vans, and engineers CT and MRI trailers to order. We build the shell, systems and interior around your chosen imaging system, which you buy from the imaging manufacturer directly or through us. Odulair is a Women-Owned Small Business (CAGE 6L2X9) registered on SAM.gov, which supports federal and grant-funded imaging programs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a mobile imaging unit?

A mobile imaging unit is a van, truck or trailer built around a diagnostic imaging system such as X-ray, CT, mammography, MRI, ultrasound or DEXA, so imaging can be provided at hospitals, clinics, workplaces and rural sites.

Which imaging modalities can be mobile?

Digital X-ray, mammography, CT, MRI, ultrasound and DEXA are all deployed in mobile units. The modality determines the platform: X-ray and ultrasound fit vans and trucks, while CT and MRI need trailers.

Does a mobile X-ray or CT unit need radiation shielding?

Yes. Shielding is designed from a qualified expert's shielding plan for the specific equipment and workload, and the unit is registered with the state radiation control program.

Does a mobile mammography unit need MQSA certification?

Yes. Mammography units in the US, including mobile units, must be certified under the Mammography Quality Standards Act before performing exams.

Can Odulair supply the imaging equipment?

Odulair can integrate imaging systems from your preferred manufacturer or source them as part of the project. The vehicle is engineered to that manufacturer's site-planning requirements.

Planning a Mobile Imaging Program?

Odulair engineering will match your program to the right platform and configuration.
